The realistic cost for building a school to house 4500 kids is around 30 million dollars. The politicians in La La Land decided to spend $528 million dollars to remodel the Ambassador Hotel so it could be used as a school for 4200 children. In 1968, Senator Robert Kennedy was assassinated at the Ambassador. These same idiotic politicians decided to name the new school after Robert Kennedy. About a month before his death, I met and talked with Senator Kennedy. From what I knew about the man, he would have been ashamed to have his name associated with such a wasteful project. At least 42,000 kids have been denied educational facilities by the despicable act of these few elected officials. This kind of waste is the reason we can't balance the budget in this state. AND IT'S JUST CALIFORNIA STUPID!

The headlines are full of news about kids making poor choices. Drug abuse, alcohol abuse, crime and immoral and antisocial behavior all permeate our lives. For the most part, it starts with poor choices. It is my opinion that with some good advice from the parents, many of these poor choices can be avoided. Yes, I agree the solution is not as simple as sitting down with your children and giving them valuable advice, but it's a good start!

We have far too many families with only one parent. Yoo few families spend time every evening enjoying a meal together. Even fast food can be eaten at home at the dining room or kitchen table. This is the time to get to know your children's interests, how they are doing in school, who their friends are and where they spend their time when they are away from home.

It is also the ideal time to impart the wisdom of a prior generation or two. For those of you who don't know what to say to your kids, here is what to tell your children:

The choices you make will affect your future. Good choices make for a good future. When in doubt ask your parents or grandparents.

By its very nature, every act has a consequence. Think about the consequences of your actions before you act, even when you are in a hurry.

If you make bad choices, that could prevent you from becoming all you want to be.

Respect others and yourself. There's nothing wrong with the "Golden Rule". Nearly every religion has one.

Whatever you decide to do for a living, apply yourself. If you do not enjoy your work, find another career

Have fun in life, but not at the expense of other people's feelings.

These and any other bits of wisdom you can depart on your kids early in their life and often. If every parent does this, it will help us all. To do less for your children is just CALIFORNIA STUPID!

After a brief hiatus, I am back to write some more opinions. I will start with a topic near and dear to the hearts of most people. Remember, our children are our future.

The Governor has ordered 200,000 employees of the state to take a pay cut to $7.25 an hour. The Appellate Court just ruled it lawful. There are now 400,000 tear filled eyes contemplating their dim future.

Employees will receive full back pay as soon as a budget is passed. The way the legislature works so well together, that will not be any time soon.

Frankly, I think it will be great incentive for the legislature to get off its collective asses and pass a budget already. Two hundred thousand screaming state workers can cause quite a racket.

Speaking of racket. I have never met a state employer worth what they are paid. Most of them ignore phones while they chat with other employees about some irrelevant jabber. Most of them move slower than molasses. You want to balance the budget? Cut DMV workers pay by half, cut Caltrans workers pay by half as well. Speaking of Caltrans, Why does it take five people to man one shovel? Every legislator has a staff that does their work, cut their staff by half and make the legislators earn their pay raises.

One department I would not cut is the California Highway Patrol. Their budget I would increase. The increase could be paid for with the money you save by cutting prison workers' pay and benefits. How hard can it be to keep an eye on a bunch of caged animals? These guards have the firepower to stop any problem, yet they are the biggest whiners in the state. If you can't handle it prison workers, just quit. There are plenty of illegal aliens to take your place for minimum wage. That might even open up jobs for citizens.

One other way to balance the budget, STOP WASTING THE MONEY YOU DO HAVE. Every year, every department is handed a budget. When the end of the year approaches, the department managers will make a concerted effort to spend every last dime. They don't want to show the legislature that they can do fine with less money. Maybe some state auditor should start making a list of surplus inventory. I bet they would discover where the $19 billion shortfall is located.

Finally, do we really need to pay all these ex-politicians to sit on boards and committees at $100,000 plus for showing up to 4 meetings a month or less? Now that IS CALIFORNIA STUPID!

With all the serious issues that face our political leaders every day, you would think they wouldn't have time for the following CALIFORNIA STUPID laws:

The city of Long Beach decided that cars are the only things allowed in a garage. How's that one working out for you Long Beach? Further proof the Long Beach city council spends way too much time out in the sun, it is against the law to curse on a mini-golf course.

The same city that makes it illegal to cry on the witness stand also makes it illegal for a man to beat his wife with a belt wider than two inches, without her consent. Apparently the domestic violence laws do not apply in L.A.

It is illegal to walk a camel down Palm Canyon Drive between the hours of four and six P.M. in Palm Springs. You'll just have wait or to take a detour with your camel. Why just that road and that time? Do they really have a camel problem in Palm Springs or did the city leaders start happy hour a bit early that day?

It is illegal to wipe one's car with used underwear in San Francisco. Tell that to the guy who washed my windows at the stop light on Market street. That city also prohibits piling horse manure higher than six feet on any street corner. Nothing is said about how high they can pile it at city hall.

Nobody is allowed to ride a bicycle in a swimming pool in Baldwin Park. (And you can't roller skate in a buffalo herd.)

The California Legislature must have been smoking some wacky tobacky when they made it illegal for a car without a driver to exceed sixty miles per hours. Fifty nine miles per hour is okay. I'd like to see that traffic stop on dashboard video. "Honest sarge, I stopped this vehicle for speeding but the damn car refuses to sign the ticket and I need a bigger set of cuffs."

Finally, I want to commend San Diego for tackling those pesky homeowners that leave their Christmas lights up past February 2nd, they are subjected to a fine of $250.

As Dickens' Mr. Bumble said, "the law is an ass". Perhaps it's not the law, but the lawmakers that deserve that distinction.

Megabucks Meg (aka Nutmeg) may have some anger issues. It has been reported that she coughed up about $200,000 to settle with an Ebay employee. Apparently she got upset one day and shoved one of her workers. I wonder if this shows how she will handle a legislature that disagrees with her. Maybe she believes it when Arnold calls them "girly men"?

It should be obvious that Megabucks Meg feels sympathy for the working class. How many jobs was she responsible for outsourcing to other states and other countries? Why does it seem like she is speaking with tongue firmly planted in cheek when she talks about understanding the plight of the working poor? Maybe it's time for her to crawl out of her ivory tower and mingle among the common folks. She might learn something.

Megabucks Meg refuses to schedule more than one debate with Jerry Brown. Could it be she either doesn't want to debate issues which she doesn't understand or she can't?

Get ready for $100,000,000 worth of Megabucks Meg between now and November. If you actually watch these commercials, that would be as CALIFORNIA STUPID as Mrgabucks Meg, herself. Personally, I prefer to watch the one channel she won't appear on, TCM.

With a population of over 36 million, California has over 27 million people eligible to register to vote. Nearly 17 million did register. This past Tuesday, 4.2 million bothered to vote. Less than 15% of those eligible to register and vote accounted for the sum total of California's interest in governing themselves. That is not only shameful and pathetic, it is CALIFORNIA STUPID!

With all the issues facing local and state government, Californians have relinquished their right to have an opinion in resolving those issues. They have trusted their futures and the futures of their progeny to the 15%. That is the shame.

The sham is that unless you are obscenely rich or so well connected politically as to have the backing of special interests, you will never win an election in this state. We will never see an honest poor person even bother to run. Meg spent $81 million dollars to convince Republicans that she is fiscally conservative. Her high and mightyness wrote a personal check for $71 million of that amount. She has said she is willing to put up $150 million of her own money to win the election for Governor, an office that pays less than a quarter million a year plus perks. That's not a big strain on someone who is a multi billionaire.

Now it remains to be seen if Megabucks Meg and her millions can defeat Jerry Brown's Democratic political machine. Meg needs to pull 30% of the Latino vote to win. Not an easy task considering her views on immigration. Jerry has to worry about his ever changing stand on the issues. Jerry's strength is that he's had the job before and he understands how the system works. That is Megabucks Meg's biggest weakness.

Whoever wins in November, you can be sure it won't be the best person for the office out of 27 million possible candidates!
